Conference on Equality, Business & Public Sector Procurement
Bridgewater Hall, Manchester 11th Mar 2010 (10.30am - 3.30pm)
Business Link North West in partnership with Equality & Human Rights Commission would like to invite you to a conference, aimed at increasing the opportunities to win business from the public sector in the North West. A number of business support agencies will have presence, including Business Link North West, Chamber’s of Commerce, Institute of Directors and Minority Supplier Diversity UK.
A significant number of local authority procurement and commissioning managers will also be attending, as well as the North West Improvement and Efficiency Partnership (NWIEP). The NWIEP are currently introducing a system of web based contracting, which will become the standard model across the North West for local all authorities and they will be having a session on this. We have some interesting case studies to present, which we are confident demonstrate how factoring equalities requirements into procurement, has delivered real outcomes and benefits for suppliers and the wider community.
The conference forms part of a programme of work to support the embedding equality & diversity in public sector procurement in the North West in 2010/11.
It will also aim to inform and explain to public sector and suppliers, the legal requirements and opportunities that exist under the Equality Bill, when it comes into law in April 2010.

Burnley Football Club, Turf Moor Enterprise Haven, Harry Potts Way, Burnley 20th Mar 2010 (9.00am - 4.00pm)
Lancashire-based innovation organisation Ideas North West (www.ideasnorthwest.co.uk) is hosting its fifth annual North West Inventors’ Expo sponsored by No Limits at Turf Moor Enterprise Haven on Saturday 20th March.
The event follows on from last year’s success when more than 200 inventors and members of the public packed into the Expo. Visitors came from around the region including Manchester, Liverpool, Preston, Blackburn - and as far North as Cumbria.
There will be local inventors showcasing their ideas, selected supporters' stands including rapid prototyping, tooling and manufacturing services; free patent search clinics; and, representatives from the Patent Office. There will also be a chance to have free consultations with patent agents, solicitors and government grants advisors. Successful local inventors will also be attending to inspire and share their knowledge.
Ideas North West Chairman Basil Philipsz said,
"The North West Inventors' Expo continues to be a one of the region's most dynamic and best-supported events for innovators. If you have an idea and want to exploit it you need to be at this Expo. We have a whole host of legal, logistical and business experts offering free advice - the kind of advice you would otherwise potentially pay thousands of pounds for.
"And there is also the opportunity to network and be inspired by inventors who have already brought products to market. The North West Innovation community is a thriving and self-supportive group - and the Expo is when you see this community spirit at its best.Type of Event: Ideas North West Expo 2010 Cost: Free Contact: For more information exhibitors and delegates can visit the website www.ideasnorthwest.co.uk or contact Paul White on 01254 692692 or email paul.white@blackburn.gov.uk.
