Clitheroe business finds work experience- for adults!
Thursday 19th November
A woman from Clitheroe has started a new business- finding work experience for adults.
Liz Cook began Job Trials after her own experience of unemployment, and the difficulty of finding placements to get experience. It is a social enterprise, which means that any profits are reinvested in the community.
Liz chose the social enterprise route because it gave her more freedom, after experiencing many companies delivering government contracts who couldn't help because sh didn't fit the particular categories they had to work with. She said: "I want a company that will accept anybody and everybody. It's for the community at the end of the day. I'm doing because I've got the passion and motivation to do it. It's not about tick boxes."
To help get Job Trials started she approached Pennine Lancashire's No Limits, who put her in touch with Social Enterprise Lancashire Network (SELNET) to get expert advice and support.
Liz explains: "Job Trials helps unemployed adults get back into work through work experience and working interviews."
A working interview is where someone demonstrates their skills in the workplace, rather than going through a formal question and answer interview.
Liz launched the business at a social enterprise showcase at Burnley's Turf Moor football ground on Thursday (Nov 19), organised by No Limits.
Liz said: "It has been really good forging links with employers who can give work experience to people and who have people who need confidence building to help them into employment."
