Michael's hopes for Easy Living

Monday 3rd December

A pair of Burnley men have been proven right in their decision to set up their own business.

Easy Living Furnishings was launched by Michael Wheadon, 37, who has 20 years' marketing experience behind him and Darren Hargreaves, 38, who has spent the last 20 years in the furnishings industry.

The two joined forces when it became apparent that they were both looking for a change in direction in their lives, and they spotted a niche market for quality furnishings in Burnley and Pendle.

"It was a big step for both of us, and it has involved some long hours," admitted Michael, "but it is definitely proving worthwhile so far."

Easy Living benefited from help offered by Get Set, a No Limits project which offers tailored advice and support for new and emerging businesses in Pennine Lancashire.

The funding acquired through No Limits allowed the company to redevelop a mill in Weavers' Triangle, Burnley, which sits them in a prime position in and amongst like-minded business.

"We couldn't have picked a better location," beamed Michael. "The money we received allowed us to develop sensibly, and helped us through a tricky cash-flow situation early on.

But as well as the finance package, which came with backing from Barclays, personal investment and support from Lancashire County Council's Rosebud Fund, Michael values the advice as much as anything.

"The advice has been priceless. They helped us develop a business plan, and that stopped us making any silly decisions," he added.
