No Limits to Socceroo's skills!

Monday 26th November

Budding business brains from Shadsworth Junior School, Blackburn, were boosted by the appearance of Blackburn Rovers star Brett Emerton during their trip around Ewood Park.

The pupils took photographs during their tour of the stadium, and then headed to the ICT suite to design and create mousemats from their artwork when they spotted the Australian international creating his very own.

It was all part of the Design and Make Enterprise day, which is aimed at developing young people's entrepreneurial skills through the creation and manufacture of a prototype product.

The day was one of a number of programmes run by Blackburn Rovers Community Trust under the No Limits Shooting Stars project involving the local professional football clubs and other identified partners.

No Limits is an initiative to help support new and existing businesses throughout Pennine Lancashire with advice, finance, accommodation and a whole range of other support.

It is supported by the three professional football clubs of Pennine Lancashire - Accrington Stanley, Blackburn Rovers and Burnley - and the local authorities.

Head of Community Affairs at Blackburn Rovers, Gill Kinloch, said: "The children were encouraged to identify opportunity and to design to meet particular need, and also to take into account price and marketing methods."

Steve Hoyle, director of No Limits, said: "Shooting Stars is an important project to us. We're all about developing potential businesses in Pennine Lancashire, and it's never too early to start preparing tomorrow's generation of entrepreneurs.

"We were delighted that Brett Emerton stopped by to help the kids. He even devised his own mousemat which went into a raffle to help raise funds for the school."
