Stable success for the future

Monday 8th February

Social Enterprise Stable Trading opened the door for success thanks to a loan from the Business Investment Deals (BID) managed by Lancashire County Council as part of the No Limits programme.

With help from the funding, the business, based at the Hyndburn Community & Voluntary Resource Centre on Cannon Street in Accrington, which provides work based learning and training for professions such as catering, has assisted 15 young people and adults to gain a recognised National Vocational Qualification.

The BID programme offers 'soft' loans of up to £10,000 to social enterprises who bring their clients or carers into the No Limits programme. Up to 80 per cent of the loan can be repaid in the form of referrals or outputs and 20 per cent by cash repayments.

BID is part of the No Limits programme, a Government funded initiative aimed at stimulating enterprise in Pennine Lancashire's deprived communities.

Director John Atherton said: "We work with disadvantaged individuals who want to increase their skills base and their chances of getting a job. We were able to provide the individual help they needed to achieve this which will hopefully really help their employment opportunities."

County Councillor Tim Ashton, Cabinet Member for Environment and Planning said: "I think it is so important that we have social enterprises like Stable Trading in Lancashire to provide such valuable and necessary opportunities for people to be able to change their own future and make a difference not only to their own lives but to their own families and importantly to the wider community.

"This is also a clever financing solution that allows social enterprise businesses to repay the majority of their loan back by delivering more services to their neighbourhood."

No Limits is a partnership which includes Lancashire County Council, the local authorities of Blackburn with Darwen, Burnley, Hyndburn and Pendle as well as Burnley, Accrington Stanley and Blackburn Rovers Football Clubs. In almost three years, No Limits has helped grow over 1200 businesses, with 1000 new business starts. It has created or safeguarded over 3000 jobs and leveraged well over £9 million of private sector investment.
