Women plan to bring Beckham to Burnley!

Thursday 19th November

Women from across East Lancashire have been planning how to secure the funds to bring David Beckham to Burnley.

But LA Galaxy need not fear – it was just part of an event at Turf Moor called ‘Women Take the Field’.

Julia Ramsbottom, from No Limits’ Women Mean Business, said: “The event was for women thinking of starting a business, or who’d just started and who wanted to network and learn some more business skills.

“The main part of the day was working on a case study, where they had to think of ways to get £10 million to help Burnley buy David Beckham.”

Hameeda Mahmood, a holistic health practitioner from Rossendale, said: “I’d been to quite a few of the Women Mean Business workshops when I started my business. But things change, so I wanted to make sure I was focussing things properly and that I could access all the different facilities available for women to make the most out of my business.

“The activities made us question our different skills and look at business in a different way, which I know I can now apply to my own business. I t was really, really good.”

The women heard from Colne businesswomen Christine Rowlands, and business coach Liz Pollard, and there was also a motivational session with the Burnley FC cheerleaders.

Angela Smith, from EMR events in Blackburn, said: “It has been an excellent day, meeting new people, especially other women who are really confident about wanting to make something of their own career.”
