Young people encouraged to “believe in better”
Tuesday 17th November
Young people from across Pennine Lancashire were encouraged to “believe in better” and think about being their own boss at a No Limits event on November 16.
160 young people converged on at Turf Moor in Burnley to find out more about the opportunity of working for themselves, including pupils from St Christopher’s C of E High School and Accrington Academy in Accrington, and The Rhyddings High School in Oswaldtwistle.
Entrepreneurs Imran Hakim, whose iTeddy became a sensation on the BBC’s Dragon’s Den, and Atifa Shah, were there to encourage young people to think about starting their own business as part of a global event.
Global Entrepreneurship Week (16 – 20 November) puts the spotlight on enterprise, and the opportunities for people across the world that come from starting and growing businesses.
Across Pennine Lancashire, events are run by No Limits, which provides support to new and existing businesses. So far, No Limits has supported over 900 new businesses, as well as providing advice, support and grants to existing firms.
Atifa explained: “I wanted the young people to really think about themselves, their personality, the kind of things that excite them.”
“I don’t think these events will make entrepreneurs, I think they will make young people realise they are entrepreneurs, that they do have what it takes. I’m sure there are people in here that will go on to be very successful entrepreneurs.”
Imran added: “I’m going to take them back on a journey through the businesses I built up, some of the lessons I learned, and leave them with some hints and tips.””
“One tip will be: Keep dreaming. It’s only when we dream and when we’ve got something that we aspire to, to be like or to become, we can truly make it happen. Without having a vision, without having a dream, you don’t know where you’re going.”
“Entrepreneurship is about a mindset. I’ll sum it up in three words: ‘Believe in better’.”
