Success stories
Shooting Stars - Blackburn
Shooting Stars Blackburn is a great new scheme that uses football to get young people thinking about enterprise. Working with Blackburn Rovers, local schools and community groups, our projects introduce new skills to raise confidence and aspirations.
Football is a fantastic learning tool that can be used to explore all sorts of subjects. Shooting Stars covers everything from drama, languages, business studies and dance, through economics, religious studies, ICT and healthy living. Each programme is designed to meet National Curriculum requirements and is delivered by qualified, experienced teachers.
The project is open to anyone aged 5 to 18 in the Pennine Lancashire area.
Shooting Stars in Blackburn takes place at Ewood Park, home of the premiership team, who are often on hand to provide extra inspiration. Young people can take part in one-off sessions or regular weekly and monthly programmes and project activity is delivered both during the day and the evening. Shooting Stars isn’t just about helping individuals - the scheme is making enterprise culture stronger throughout whole communities.
Shooting Stars increases:
- Skill levels in a wide range of subjects
- Self-confidence and self-esteem
- Understanding of how gender and background can influence entrepreneurial activity
- Awareness of the importance of a healthy, active lifestyle
- Participation in sporting activity
- Learning capacity in a stimulating, non-traditional teaching environment
